Connect Mailchimp

Sync your clearance catalog into Mailchimp, push discount and flash-sale events into your automations, and know exactly what data moves and when.

Connecting Mailchimp lets StockSweep keep a clearance product feed inside your Mailchimp account and push events — a discount applied, a flash sale starting — into automations you already build in Mailchimp. StockSweep never sends email on your behalf; Mailchimp does the sending, using data StockSweep keeps current.

Estimated time: 5 minutes, once available (see the note below).

Not yet available to connect

Read this before the checklist below. Connecting to Mailchimp needs an app-level OAuth application registered with Mailchimp on StockSweep's side, and that registration is not provisioned yet. The rest of this article is accurate and ready — it documents exactly what will happen once it is, so you know what to expect the day the Connect button starts working. Until then, clicking Connect will not complete, and that is not something wrong with your account. If Mailchimp is the reason you're evaluating StockSweep, contact us for the current status directly. See also Integrations Overview.

What you'll accomplish

  • Authorize StockSweep to read and write your Mailchimp catalog, lists, and events
  • Understand what StockSweep syncs into Mailchimp, and on what schedule
  • Choose which events push into your Mailchimp automations
  • Know how to tell a healthy connection from one that needs attention

Requirements

  • Plan: Pro or Enterprise. Not available on Free or Growth.
  • Admin access to the Mailchimp account you want to connect.
  • Found at Settings → Integrations → Mailchimp.

Quick checklist

  • You're on Pro or Enterprise
  • You're logged into the Mailchimp account you want to connect (not a teammate's)
  • You're ready to approve the connection on Mailchimp's own authorization screen

Step-by-step

1. Open the Mailchimp integration page

Settings → Integrations → Mailchimp → Connect.

2. Approve the connection on Mailchimp's side

You're sent to Mailchimp's own login and authorization screen — this is Mailchimp asking you, not StockSweep. Unlike Klaviyo, Mailchimp's OAuth doesn't ask you to approve a specific, itemized list of permissions — approving the connection grants StockSweep the same account-level access any connected app gets on Mailchimp. Approve it to continue.

3. You're sent back to StockSweep

The connection status starts at Pending. Behind the scenes, StockSweep makes one extra call here that Klaviyo doesn't need: Mailchimp splits its API across regional data centers (account URLs look like usX.api.mailchimp.com), so StockSweep looks up which one your account uses automatically. You don't need to know or enter it yourself. The status moves to Connected once that's done — normally within a few seconds.

4. Choose what syncs

On the Sync Status tab, you'll find three independent toggles:

  • Catalog sync — keeps a StockSweep clearance product feed current inside Mailchimp, so you can reference it in an automation or campaign.
  • List sync — keeps a Mailchimp audience/list ("StockSweep Clearance" by default) in sync with clearance activity, so you can target it directly.
  • Event push — sends individual events (see below) the moment they happen, for automations that react in real time.

Each can be switched off independently without disconnecting the other two.

5. Choose which events push

Event push has its own allowlist — six event types exist, five are on by default:

Event On by default What it's for
Discount applied Yes Trigger price-drop automations when StockSweep applies a markdown
Price reverted Yes React when a price returns to its original value
Clearance collection updated Yes Keep your clearance catalog in sync when items are added or removed
Flash sale started Yes Fire your flash-sale campaign the moment a sale begins
Flash sale ended Yes Close out your flash-sale campaign when the sale ends
Dead stock escalated No Alert your team when inventory crosses the 180-day aging threshold

Turn any of them off if you don't have an automation that should react to it — an event nobody listens to is just noise in your Mailchimp activity feed.

What success looks like

  • The integration page shows Connected.
  • A product change in StockSweep's clearance feed appears in Mailchimp's catalog within about a minute (changes are batched for roughly 60 seconds before syncing, so back-to-back edits don't trigger a sync each).
  • An event you left on (e.g. Discount applied) shows up as an activity Mailchimp's automations can trigger on, shortly after the discount is applied.

Troubleshooting

Status shows "Needs attention"

Symptom: the connection was working, then flipped to Needs attention (internally called Degraded). Likely cause: Mailchimp revoked the access token or removed the app's access — most often because someone removed StockSweep from Mailchimp's own connected-apps list, or changed their Mailchimp account password in a way that invalidated existing sessions. Fix: click Connect again. It reuses the existing connection rather than creating a duplicate, so nothing about your sync history or event settings is lost. Confirm: status returns to Connected and the next scheduled sync completes.

Catalog items aren't updating in Mailchimp

Symptom: you changed clearance pricing or added an item, and it hasn't shown up in Mailchimp yet. Likely cause: either Catalog sync is toggled off, or you're checking inside the debounce window (up to ~60 seconds after the change). Fix: confirm Catalog sync is on; wait a minute; if still stale, a connection stuck longer than 8 hours without a successful sync triggers an automatic catch-up on its own — no action needed, just time. Confirm: the item appears in Mailchimp's catalog with current data.

An event I expected didn't arrive

Symptom: you applied a discount and nothing showed up in Mailchimp. Likely cause: Event push is off, or that specific event type is unchecked in the allowlist. Fix: check both toggles on the Sync Status tab. Confirm: the next matching action produces the event.

Billing & responsibility

Your StockSweep plan price does not change based on how much data syncs to Mailchimp or how many events fire — this is included at Pro and Enterprise, flat. Your Mailchimp subscription (if any tiering applies on Mailchimp's side, e.g. by audience size) is billed to you by Mailchimp directly; StockSweep is not involved in that billing relationship. See Plans Overview.

FAQ

Does this send my customers' personal data to Mailchimp?

StockSweep sends product and clearance event data, not customer PII, as part of this integration.

What happens if I disconnect?

Your access tokens are cleared. The connection record is kept (so your prior sync history isn't lost from the record), but nothing more syncs until you reconnect.

Can I connect Mailchimp and Klaviyo at the same time?

Yes — they're independent connections. See Connect Klaviyo.
