A clearance page is a hosted landing page for your dead stock — a place to send an email campaign, an ad, or a social post without building a page on your store. It fills itself from rules you set, so it stays current without manual curation.
Estimated time: 6 minutes
What you'll accomplish
- Create a clearance page and fill it automatically
- Control exactly which products appear and which never do
- Schedule it, brand it, and publish it
- Choose the right indexing setting so it helps rather than harms your SEO
Requirements
- Plan: Growth, Pro or Enterprise.
- Found at Actions → Clearance pages.
Quick checklist
- You know which products the page should feature
- You have a headline
- You know whether search engines should index it
- You know when it should start and end
Step-by-step
1. Create a draft
Select Create. Only two fields are required — a name (up to 160 characters, internal) and a hero headline (up to 120 characters, what visitors see). Everything else has a sensible default, so you can park a draft and come back.
2. Choose how the page fills itself
Five fill rules, one per page:
| Fill rule | Fills with |
|---|---|
| Active discounted items | Everything currently discounted |
| All dead stock items | Your whole dead-stock list |
| Top items by frozen capital | The N products with the most capital tied up |
| From my sale collection | Your existing sale collection |
| Select items manually | Only what you pick |
Top items by frozen capital takes a top N value up to 120 — a good default for a campaign page, since it leads with the inventory that costs you most to keep.
The rule-based options also accept a collection, product types or vendors to draw from, so you can scope a page to one part of the catalogue.
3. Exclude what must never appear
Exclusions are applied on top of the fill rule and accept product types, vendors and tags. Use them for anything that should never be discounted publicly — a protected brand, a contract line, new-season stock.
You can also choose whether out-of-stock items appear. Leaving them off is usually right: a page of sold-out products converts badly.
4. Brand it
Three templates — Bold, Editorial, Urgency. Then optionally set:
- A hero subheading (up to 240 characters)
- An accent colour as a hex value (
#RRGGBB) - A logo
- Footer text (up to 240 characters)
- Whether to show the powered by line
- A low-stock threshold (1–9,999) to display scarcity where it is genuine
5. Schedule it
Set starts at and ends at. A page moves through Draft → Scheduled → Live → Paused → Ended → Archived, so you can prepare a campaign in advance and let it end on its own rather than remembering to pull it down.
6. Decide on indexing
The noindex switch controls whether search engines index the page.
- Campaign page for one email send? Set noindex. A short-lived discount page competing with your own product pages in search is a net loss.
- Evergreen clearance destination? Leave it indexable and treat it as a real landing page.
If your goal is ongoing clearance SEO, a connected store collection is usually the better instrument — see Connect Existing Collection (recommended for SEO).
What success looks like
- The page status reads Live within its scheduled window.
- Opening the public URL shows your headline, branding and the expected products.
- Changing a fill rule changes the product list on the next refresh, without editing the page manually.
Troubleshooting
The page is empty
The fill rule matched nothing. Common causes: Active discounted items with no live discounts, an exclusion that is broader than intended, or out-of-stock items hidden when everything matching is out of stock.
Products I excluded still appear
Exclusions match on product type, vendor and tag. Confirm the product actually carries the tag or vendor you excluded — a near-miss on a tag name is the usual explanation.
The page is live but shows old prices
Prices follow your store. If a discount was reverted, the page reflects that on its next refresh.
I want to restrict the page to specific customers
Segment-gated pages are not currently available — the attachment gate is switched off. See Customer Segments Builder.
FAQ
Does a clearance page change my product prices?
No. It presents products at whatever price your store holds. Discounts are applied through the normal discount paths, with margin protection.
Can I run more than one page at a time?
Yes. Pages are independent and can have overlapping schedules.
What happens when a page ends?
It moves to Ended and stops serving. You can archive it or re-schedule it later.
Does it slow my store down?
No. Clearance pages are hosted by StockSweep, not rendered by your storefront theme.
